Oil in the Raw

Dear Customers,

It is with regret that 2011 will see

OIL IN THE RAW

in a state of limbo, with regard to the precious, top quality olive oil normally offered to everyone.

A disturbing ‘development’ has transformed the olive oil industry in my favoured locale in Greece and, probably, throughout the whole of the country, namely:  the widespread adoption of wholly machine ‘processing’ of nature’s wonder-food; this means that I personally refuse to have anything to do with the resultant product.

That previously rich, natural, flavoursome, delectable olive oil – which surely could not be improved upon – now, in my view, has it’s very essence removed, processed out, and tastes like yuk.

Until I can summon together enough like-minded peasants, like myself, who believe the old, time-honoured, cold pressing of oil olives is the best and only way to obtain olive oil, Oil in the Raw will have no olive oil to offer you.

We will not look to other countries’ produce in this respect, as we are convinced that Greek olive oil is simply the best.

In the meantime, be aware that the term: “extracted”, as opposed to “pressed” signifies fruit being subjected to a mechanical, macerating process, monitored electronically at every stage, un-contaminable, untouched by human hand, non-oxidisable, and temperature controlled EXCEPT AT THE PRECISE POINT OF MASHING. Even the official organic standards permit heating during the olive oil production process up to 28C! This limit has already been raised from 23C, and may even be higher now. Beware the expression: “cold” extraction. European Economic Community definition of the English word: cold.

14 years of loyalty by our Oil in the Raw customers will be rewarded hopefully next year. Keep in touch, and I promise to let you know as soon as some real olive oil becomes available to offer you.  There is a possibility that it will no longer be olive oil which is covered by officially certified organic status, but it will be the produce of olive farmers known personally who never use pesticides or fertilizers and who farm in harmony with nature and without greed.

Thank you for your custom to date. We will not abandon you. Our usual sumptuous organic table olives remain available as well as our stylish olive oil containers.

To your health!

Dina - Proprietress of Oil in the Raw
